Put your head up

“Put your head up,” he said.

For you are a lion.

Don’t forget that

And neither will the sheep.

ATTICUS

This is one of my favourite quotes. Atticus is an anonymous best-selling author. He says that staying anonymous motivates him to write from a place of vulnerability and freedom. He loves the ocean, the desert and playing with words. Atticus describes himself as a storyteller and observer.

I’ve been an observer this week. And I have to admit I’ve hated every minute. I’ve never been someone who can sit still.

But sometimes I have no choice. On those rare occasions that I’m forced to slow down, this is what I like to do.

Read

I am currently reading Brené Brown’s Braving the Wilderness. The Quest for True Belonging and the Courage to Stand Alone. Have you read it?

I love it. She has written more than 7 books, but I really relate to this one.

Brené suggests a four-step process to find true belonging through authenticity, bravery, trust and vulnerability. It’s about learning to stand alone.

Listen – Music

I listen to Tupac. There I’ve said it. Don’t judge haha.

I sometimes think I might be getting a little old for Tupac, but I still really enjoy his music.

Some days I swing between him, a bit of RnB and Jimmy Barnes.

Listen - Podcasts

I’ve also been listening to podcasts and my two favourites at the moment are:

On Purpose with Jay Shetty and Authentic Sex by Juliette Allen.

I’ve been listening while I’ve been laid up from the knee operation, but I also listen when I’m walking. Or in the car. One of Jay Shetty’s episodes caused me to pull over while driving.

More on that soon but first, let’s chat about Juliette.

You’ll find Juliette Allen on Instagram where her bio reads: Leading Australian Sexologist – Head Teacher at Pleasure School and Host of the Authentic Sex Podcast. Juliette is known for authentically sharing her own personal experiences as a sexually empowered woman. I highly recommend listening to her podcast – it’s enlightening, to say the least.

Jay Shetty is amazing. I love all of his podcasts but 7 Ways to Stop Comparing Yourself to Others resonated with me so much that I had to pull the car over to the side of the road and take notes.

Jay shares a quote by Theodore Roosevelt: ‘Comparison is the Thief of Joy’ and during this podcast, he gives 7 ways to stop comparing yourself to others as well as tips on how to define your own personal success.

Watch

I don’t watch a lot of TV. But if there’s something on that I like and I have time, I tend to binge-watch.

My top 3 series would have to be:

1. The Sinner - both series

2. You

3. Big Little Lies

I have also binged on Homeland and Messiah.

Things I'm missing (besides exercise)

Coffee

The moment I’m up and able to drive I’ll be chasing my favourites -

Wolff at Hendra

Industry Beans at Newstead

Lil Gypsy Van at Paddington

Merlo at Paddington

Bellissimo Coffee - Fortitude Valley

Ginger Flu Shot

And I can’t forget the Ginger Flu Shot from Canter and Colt, Samford. I’m addicted – I love them. I have one every morning (except when they’re closed).

Just talking about coffee and Ginger Flu Shots has me searching for my car keys.

Let me know what you do when you have time to chill or are forced to relax.
